Before you throw something away, ask yourself:

  1. Is it still usable?
  2. Will it be better with a good cleaning?
  3. Does it need a repair?
  4. Can I fix or clean it myself?
  5. Can a replacement part or accessory make the whole thing better?
  6. Can something be removed to improve it?
  7. Can it substitute for something else?
  8. Does someone else need it more?
  9. Is it recyclable?

What is your best trash to treasure story?

  • Keep your work wardrobe clean and pressed and your shoes polished so you’re less inclined to shop for new.
  • Buy at least one “cheater meal” when grocery shopping for a day you would be tempted to eat out.
  • Pick up pennies on the street to remind yourself that every effort counts.
  • Give 25% of your “stuff” away to charity. Separating out the junk well help you admire the gems.
  • Before tossing anything, do a mini-brainstorm as to how you can repurpose it.
  • Re-evaluate any projects you are planning that require spending to determine their necessity.
  • Stay home one weekend a month.

What tips do you have to save money?
